What's on Your Needles? Vol #25

I like to spend time on Ravelry looking at projects knit in Hazel Knits. I love to see what other people have knit and I love to feature some of the interesting ones on this blog. I am often inspired to try a certain colour, pattern or colour combination that I hadn't thought to try.

A couple of weeks ago I came across a project that was an inspiration in another way. A true labour of love. A project deserving of a post of its own.

JillinIl (ravname) had designed and knit a final present for her mother, a cremains cover. Every detail from the colour to each element of the design was chosen for a specific reason, with her mother in mind. You can read more about the design selection here.

I think this is a beautiful tribute piece and couldn't have been an easy project to work on. I only hope each stitch brought with it some peace.

And what an honour that she thought Hazel Knits was worthy of an eternity with her mom.

Thank you so much for allowing me to share this very personal project.

Time to KAL

Next Tuesday is May 1st and that means it is time to announce our next Knitalong. For the months of May and June our Ravelry group will be knitting patterns by Carrie of Irish Girlie Knits.

Carrie is a talented designer with lots of patterns to choose from. Socks, shawls, cowls, you name it!

Want more info and a time limited discount code for her patterns? Come and check it out here.

This is my first time knitting one of Carrie's patterns. So for this KAL I've chosen the Sweet Home socks. I'm still trying to pick a colour. I can't decide between Arroyo, Barn Door (a club colour) and Splish Splash (all in Artisan Sock). Preferences?

What the HK is on your Needles? Vol. 24

Hazel Knits is one of my go-to yarns for baby knits, especially for baby gifts. I've used it for sweaters, vests, hats and blankets. My friends appreciate that it is superwash and they don't need to take a lot of special care when laundering (I recommend laying flat to dry). In fact, I'm  designing a baby pattern right now which I'll share with you as soon as I can. Naturally, as soon as I come across other HK baby knits I feel compelled to share them. So here we go!

Thao (ravname: Thao713) knit a gorgeous Wee Austin Hoodie in club colour Starry Night in Artisan Sock. I love the point on the top of the hood. Lucky little guy! And it took less than two skeins!

Kirsten (ravname: kzilke) knit this snuggly Hippo in Blueberry in Artisan Sock. He is just adorable! And I love how she packaged it with Hippo Books for the baby's older sister. Great idea and so thoughtful.

Sharon (ravname: pdxsharon) knit one of her favourites, the classic Baby Surprise Jacket, in Woodland in Artisan Sock.  Sweet!

Erica (ravname: ejsufka) went for a pop of colour with this Melody hat, a kit she picked up at Stitches West. The kit included Red Carpet, Hi OcTang, Stick o'Butter, Euphorbia and Laguna in Artisan Sock (and is available on the HK website here). I've knit and gifted one of these myself and it was a well received gift (and a quick knit too!)

And finally, Autumn (ravname: aparker) knit a great pair of Leg Warmies in Weekend Warrior and Shady Verdant in Artisan Sock. This little guy looks ready for anything!

Thanks to everyone for sharing these sweet baby knits. I'm off to knit on my own project now, but I'll be back with more HK knits later this week. And don't forget, we will be announcing our next Knitalong soon!

Linaria Bipartita

Way back in January and February, the Hazel Knits Raverly group participated in a Knitalong featuring the patterns of the oh-so-talented Hunter Hammersen.

Not only is Hunter talented, but she is also generous. She allowed our group to preview knit a pattern from her now-released book, The Knitter's Curiousity Cabinet.

The pattern was the beautiful Linaria Bipartita. And as a result, I now get to do one of my favourite things: see how a pattern looks knit up in lots of different HK colours. If you remember a couple of posts ago, I knit mine in Indigo in Artisan Sock. Looks good in dark colours. Check!

Holly (ravname: hollyisaac) knit hers in Stick o'Butter in Artisan Sock. Looks good in bright colours. Check!

Ann (Ravname: ear2) knit hers in the club colour Blue Spruce in Artisan Sock. Looks good in textured colours. Check!

Michelle (Ravname: jellybean405) knit hers in Beach Glass in Artisan Sock. Looks good in cool colours. Check!

Trish (Ravname: twhinkle) knit hers in the old club colour Camellia in Artisan Sock. Looks good in strong colours. Check!

And Dawn (Ravname: dawn76) knit hers in Indigo in Piquant Lite. Looks good in Artisan and Piquant Lite. Check!

Too much fun! This is the sign of a great pattern. I look forward to knitting more of Hunter's patterns in the future.

Thanks to everyone for letting me share their pictures.

Next time, we will check out what other patterns people have been knitting.

Cheers!

Long time!

I'm back! I took a little blog break to wrap up a contract and deal with life's ups and downs. Now it is time to get back to knitting and sharing Hazel Knits projects.

Unfortunately, during the "crazy time" I didn't knit much, but that doesn't mean there isn't a lot for us to catch up on.

Over the next few posts, I plan to finally (!) do a wrap of our January/February KAL and show you some of the beautiful knits other HK knitters have been working on, including one, which may be the most inspirational piece ever. I'll also be introducing our May/June KAL next week.

In the meantime, the HK Ravelry group is hard at work completeing projects for the March/April KAL. The focus has been on Stripes! We have seen some beautiful projects and beautiful colour combinations. I've been working on a couple of striping projects of my own, but they are my new designs that aren't quite ready to be released yet so I can't give you all the details. But since we can't have a post without a picture (blog rules!), how about a little sneak preview.

I'll be back with more soon!
