<br />
Our Featured Color for August 2016 is <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/color-of-the-month/">Silica</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/color-of-the-month/"><img alt="http://www.hazelknits.com/color-of-the-month/" border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwSCY2-MAnGKTCxbgJMSkmV3nF4txegOXmgUHQTLdLorhnBbt477g88kFa25psLHAJFFVodYlL1qMBm63GcJvy0SXWxRXyf2rFMfU0GAFv-T1_J0OUXZUrok2l_enNLs_Ixl3BbLF7yTUJ/s320/354_Silica_beauty.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Silica is a sublime neutral that plays well with other colors for
colorwork but can also stand out on its own. It's light, silvery fawn
color is subtle, yet rich.<br />
<br />
This color will be on sale for 10% off through August 2016. It is available to pre-order now and we will begin shipping on (or before!) August 11th, 2016. All items ordered together will ship together, so if you need other items shipped sooner, please be sure to put them on a separate order.<br />

This color is a bit lighter on the Filigree Silk base and a bit darker on the Cadence (worsted) base - beautiful regardless of which base you choose.<br />
<br />
It works well with just about all of our colors - especially neutrals and warm reds.<br />

<br />
We will be listing loads of "Split-Skeins", "Rogue" (one-of-a-kind colorways) and odds and ends.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
The Hazel Knits “Rogue” sale is a fast-paced sale in which these
single or few-of-a-kind skeins tend to move quickly. Here are some tips
to help the shopping go smoothly for you.<br />
<div class="body forum_post_body">
<br />
It is important to note that “Rogue” skeins are limited and available
on a first-come, first serve basis. As a result “cart-hijacking will
inevitably occur. Cart hijacking happens when you have an item in your
cart and another customer is quicker on the draw and purchases it first.<br />
<br />
If an item in your cart is no longer available, you won’t be able to
check out or get to the next screen until that item is removed. The only
way to tell if the item in question is sold out is to click on the item
picture to see if there is still stock. If the item is out of stock, go
back to your shopping cart, remove the item and continue with your
purchase.<br />
<br />
Now, here is a super important bit of info: currently you can add
Rogues to your wishlists. This is great to help you track what things
you like, however I DO NOT recommend shopping, while using the links
from your wishlist. Due to the “cart hijacking” issue mentioned above, I
find it is much better to get out a pencil/paper and write down the
item numbers of everything you want from you list and then shopping
directly from the Rogue page. The listings are in numerical order and
grouped together by yarn base (1000-1299 Artisan Sock, 1400-1499 Cadence, 1500-1599 Entice, 1600-1699 Lively DK, 1700-1799 Piquant Lite, 1800-1899 Divine, 800-899 odds
and ends.)<br />
<br />
We will be removing listings as soon as they are sold so that you
don’t waste time looking at things that are not available, so if you are
on the actual page you can refresh (F5 on your computer keyboard) to
see what is still up for purchase.<br />
<br />
If there are Rogue colors you covet, we recommend purchasing them
individually (and quickly - do your browsing before sale day!) We will
combine shipping for all orders placed on Friday, July 8th and Saturday
July 9th. We will issue refunds for all postal over-charges whenever
it is applicable, so there is no risk in making separate purchase other
than the initial charge for shipping, which will be refunded if the
package costs less to ship than what you paid (margin of +-$1). We offer
free USA shipping on orders of $150 in MERCHANDISE. Free shipping to
other parts of the world is $250 in MERCHANDISE - this will include sale
items and combined items.<br />
<br />
We also recommend creating a web-store account if you don’t already
have one. Be sure you are signed-in before you shop on sale day.
This will speed up the checkout process. If you want to use a gift certificate, be sure to type it out in a notebook type program (word, outlook, etc.) and then copy the code using your computer mouse so you can paste it in the website at the payment screen. Be sure to write out the code exactly like it is in your gift certificate, using upper case letters and all of the dashes and symbols.<br />
<br />
A few hours prior to the start of the sale the Rogue skeins will go
dark as we move the sale items from preview only mode to purchase mode.
Don’t worry, the site hasn’t crashed right before or as a result of the
sale (at least we hope that will be the reason).</div>

That's when our <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/anklet-skeins-artisan-sock-275-yards/" target="_blank">anklet skeins</a> come in handy - 275 yards of Artisan Sock. And we've just added more of these skeins to <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/anklet-skeins-artisan-sock-275-yards/" target="_blank">our online store.</a><br />
<br />
Naturally, anklet skeins are perfect for anklets, but not just anklets.<br />
<br />
Let's have a look at some of the patterns that caught my eye on Ravelry when I searched for fingering weight patterns that require less than 275 yards.<br />
<br />
Small cowls are a great idea for anklet skeins. <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/jo-strong" target="_blank">Jo Strong's</a><a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/irish-mesh-cowl" target="_blank"> Irish Mesh cowl </a>is a beautiful pattern featuring the Irish mesh stitch.<br />

And the final pattern I've chosen is one that I've seen pop up everywhere lately - KALs, Instagram, podcasts... </div>

The <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rose-city-rollers" target="_blank">Rose City Rollers</a> by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rose-city-rollers" target="_blank">Mara Catherine Bryner </a>is a free pattern that has had almost 3000 projects posted on Ravelry since it was published last May. People seem to really like it. </div>

Keep reading until the end for more information about our Split Skeins.*<br />
<br />
For each of the patterns mentioned I have suggested colours. The links will take you to the regular DK listing for each colour as the sale listings are not available online yet. These are just suggestions to get your creative process started. Make sure to check out the Split Skein listings on the day of the sale to see what is available.<br />
<br />
Everyone needs a little inspiration, right? Let's check out the patterns I found!<br />
<br />
I'm a lover of mittens and DK is a great weight for mittens. Not too bulky but thick enough to be warm.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/pemba" target="_blank">Pemba</a> by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/knittedblissjc" target="_blank">knittedblissJC</a> looks like a nice cozy pair of mittens with lots of cable-y interest. And it has a matching headband! I think I would make them in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/zest-lively-dk/" target="_blank">Zest</a> or <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/totally-pink-lively-dk/" target="_blank">Totally Pink</a> for an awesome pop of colour.<br />

And who can resist a beautiful DK weight sweater? It has the benefits of being faster to knit than a fingering weight sweater and less bulky than a worsted weight sweater. The best of both worlds!</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
The <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/snowflake-123" target="_blank">Snowflake</a> sweater by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/tincanknits" target="_blank">Tin Can Knits</a> has just a touch of lace to keep it fun. * So what are Split Skeins? These skeins previously had a single knot or a flub in the strand.<br />
After the skein was dyed, we split it into two hanks where the knot/flub occurred in the skein. You will essentially be getting two smaller skeins that TOGETHER will range from 265-275 yards.<br />
<br />
If we have multiple skeins listed, they have likely been dyed in various different dye batches and, NOT in the same batch as other skeins of the same colorway in either the sale or the regular colorways sections of the website. If you are ordering multiple skeins, you may need to knit in alternating rows. Please plan your projects accordingly.<br />
<br />
Split Skeins are a great opportunity for some good savings if you don't mind an extra join or two! In many cases, the smaller skein is 10 grams or less. A little naughty, yet oh so nice! :)<br />

That must have been one heck of a chart.<br />

Apparently, I've been on a bit of a sock kick too.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
All throughout 2016, we are celebrating the Year of the Monkey in our Ravelry group by knitting <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/monkey" target="_blank">Monkey Socks</a> by<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/cookie-a" target="_blank"> Cookie A</a>. So far I've completed two pairs. My plan is to finish a pair during each two-month KAL period this year. The pattern does such fun things with variegated yarn and several colourways have been marinating in my stash for a very long time - too long. It's time for them to finally achieve their sock destinies.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The first colourway I knit up was It's a Wrap on Artisan Sock- an old club colourway. These will be my new Christmas socks as I wore through my last pair and didn't have a pair at all for Christmas 2015 and that was no fun!<br /><div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRHYNCtJj6iRyc6yHbGounezIN1-hq37Md-XCOP8wADbHwz2489tTRpAfeyf_haVypTKgaa1-5ji2btJJTERxmAXa6RsY4xd5_LBHsDBo4A5vw-N7EwGSMNt_T8qjlbz0spt4ydkLnJJ4i/s1600/image_medium2-2.jpeg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRHYNCtJj6iRyc6yHbGounezIN1-hq37Md-XCOP8wADbHwz2489tTRpAfeyf_haVypTKgaa1-5ji2btJJTERxmAXa6RsY4xd5_LBHsDBo4A5vw-N7EwGSMNt_T8qjlbz0spt4ydkLnJJ4i/s320/image_medium2-2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My second pair were in the retired colourway, Alki Reflections on Artisan Sock. This colourway reminds me of the handmade rag rugs my Grandmother had throughout her home. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8QaL5KTW4TDn04IXI-93l1DwoUDVdR3I-FA3UUK8AhpFQkJksowe9_AmKsqh-I6H34krDApJqxqRvryx_hEPklbG8CFZA41WnQWfAqW-Wz2y0LO6NSh7tIvDdhXfXrSqZ_7W0UweS31Vm/s1600/image_medium2-4.jpeg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8QaL5KTW4TDn04IXI-93l1DwoUDVdR3I-FA3UUK8AhpFQkJksowe9_AmKsqh-I6H34krDApJqxqRvryx_hEPklbG8CFZA41WnQWfAqW-Wz2y0LO6NSh7tIvDdhXfXrSqZ_7W0UweS31Vm/s320/image_medium2-4.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'm not sure which colourway I will chose for the next KAL. I'm looking forward to digging through my stash to see what tickles my fancy.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Unfortunately, none of the variegated colourways are currently in production. Fingers crossed they will return one day.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/hazel-knits-artisans/3385181/1-25#1" target="_blank">March/April KAL</a>, in addition to Monkey socks, also had a second theme - Literature inspired patterns. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My first pair of Literature socks were <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hedwig-and-friends" target="_blank">Hedwig & Friends</a> by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/karin-michele" target="_blank">Karin Michele</a> in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/song-sparrow-1/" target="_blank">Song Sparrow</a> on Artisan Sock. These socks were inspired by the Harry Potter series of books. I love the little owls that surround the top of the leg. These socks also qualify for the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/groups/inside-number-23" target="_blank">Inside Number 23 Podcast </a>Harry Potter KAL and I've been so inspired by them that I've started to reread the series. I haven't read the books since I spent an entire year reading them out loud at bedtime to my son about 5 years ago. I think I love them even more now!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjgTUSuyzpDUZGBr1PNtUIrv6owRc06MKYz_MeCSgSB1Pni6zOvNGsXzxAPe2Bj9NKF_K0YeqQkRMIHoAM_Ud2hvrObsIAGVa4vwH4DCWJKcKDnHNR9XWyRUaknjKxbWo1lJtZKnl_AFlX/s1600/image_medium2-1.jpeg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjgTUSuyzpDUZGBr1PNtUIrv6owRc06MKYz_MeCSgSB1Pni6zOvNGsXzxAPe2Bj9NKF_K0YeqQkRMIHoAM_Ud2hvrObsIAGVa4vwH4DCWJKcKDnHNR9XWyRUaknjKxbWo1lJtZKnl_AFlX/s320/image_medium2-1.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I also finished a Romeo and Juliet inspired pair of socks. These ones are <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/two-households" target="_blank">Two Households</a> by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/claire-ellen" target="_blank">Claire Ellen</a> and I knit them in Barn Door on Artisan Sock. These socks are mirrors of each other and were a blast to knit.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWg2ySp9LLaAdruXZ8drAN5KMLsjq4wPfsSpzbLaEzBXkAdLyRJL8zP9SD-od-lSPvQ8Cwc4n1LlIKKphlDhMX29I8OsNiAMDw5XtY0q4ZCX0nHbiE4cGD168DHFb8YIXPTY1f77stXEN-/s1600/image_medium2-3.jpeg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWg2ySp9LLaAdruXZ8drAN5KMLsjq4wPfsSpzbLaEzBXkAdLyRJL8zP9SD-od-lSPvQ8Cwc4n1LlIKKphlDhMX29I8OsNiAMDw5XtY0q4ZCX0nHbiE4cGD168DHFb8YIXPTY1f77stXEN-/s320/image_medium2-3.jpeg" width="316" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In February, I finished the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/galactic-hat" target="_blank">Galactic Hat</a> by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/julianna-puccini" target="_blank">Julianna Puccini</a> in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/tastes-like-purple/" target="_blank">Tastes Like Purple</a> and <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/nekkid/" target="_blank">Nekkid </a>on Cadence. I added a fantastic Bernat Faux Fur pompom and I'm pretty sure that even though this hat was knit with the intention of being mine that my daughter has claimed it as her own. And who can blame her? It suits her perfectly!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUiiVZ2R6t6sDWZfWqOf2hSOTV7uoxzMEAXDpIL2bW08gDC8JcFwHovjeirLkIHbiw3DMyeqLvUETKmZna_vul154ZbkzEmsX4ZdhuGbKdpRPqwk76OJ6spWVpCRADaGQZdiYbrc-7ACEK/s1600/image_medium2-1.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUiiVZ2R6t6sDWZfWqOf2hSOTV7uoxzMEAXDpIL2bW08gDC8JcFwHovjeirLkIHbiw3DMyeqLvUETKmZna_vul154ZbkzEmsX4ZdhuGbKdpRPqwk76OJ6spWVpCRADaGQZdiYbrc-7ACEK/s320/image_medium2-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The final project I have to show you is currently a work in progress. I'm knitting the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/nutcracker-trio" target="_blank">Nutcracker Trio </a>by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/susan-claudino" target="_blank">Susan Claudino</a> in all Cadence leftovers. All the knitting is done, I'm just waiting on the crowns, bells and buttons to arrive to complete the set. They are cute now, but the embellishments take them to a whole other level. I can't wait!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibSm2ccBBaA4XtAX_ZIzTyNFLRDmvHA9lqAmlmQ3U3tz8BStWsKfMCCbc0FKzjXijPqHcfBOxgMKqDNBmUs-XQumKK65JC9DnX6qjpXvzOrab2YLKKYUQHi3CGI_VgvwukbZlw_-ufXx5X/s1600/image_medium2-2.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibSm2ccBBaA4XtAX_ZIzTyNFLRDmvHA9lqAmlmQ3U3tz8BStWsKfMCCbc0FKzjXijPqHcfBOxgMKqDNBmUs-XQumKK65JC9DnX6qjpXvzOrab2YLKKYUQHi3CGI_VgvwukbZlw_-ufXx5X/s320/image_medium2-2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It might seem early to be making ornaments but these little guys have been on my radar for a few months. They were only available as a kit originally and released last week as a pattern only. I figured I had waited long enough. Plus, I will be entering them in the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/groups/legacyknitz-knerdz" target="_blank">LegacyKnitz Podcast </a>Stuffy-a-long KAL and the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/groups/susan-claudino-designs" target="_blank">Susan Claudino Designs</a> April KAL, both on Ravelry. And I love a good KAL entry. Especially one that can double dip.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Time to plot what to cast on next!</div>

Like usual I've had a lot of <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/" target="_blank">Hazel Knits</a> projects pass over my needles over the last few months. Let's have a look at what I've been up to.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My first project is the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/3-color-cashmere-cowl" target="_blank">3 Colour Cashmere Cowl</a> by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/joji-locatelli" target="_blank">Jojo Locatelli</a>. This is probably one of the most popular patterns on Ravelry this year and with good reason. It's a fun and interesting knit. And in the round, it works up pretty fast. I couldn't wait to get to that pop of pink. For mine, I opted to forego the cashmere and used <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/artisan-sock-fingering/" target="_blank">Artisan sock</a> in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/reflection/" target="_blank">Reflection</a>, <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/silhouette/" target="_blank">Silhouette</a> and <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/totally-pink/" target="_blank">Totally Pink</a>. I love, love, love this cowl. It is super long, so when you put it on it just bunches up perfectly in a way I can never perfect with a scarf or infinity cowl. Hmm...I just bought a new red coat, maybe I need to make another one of these with a pop of<a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/ruby-love/" target="_blank"> Ruby Love</a>!</div>

My next project is<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/Viki/entrechat" target="_blank"> Entrechat </a>by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/lisa-chemery" target="_blank">Lisa Chemery</a>. It's a sweet baby-sized bolero style cardigan. I knit mine in Tempo in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/ruby-love/" target="_blank">Ruby Love</a>. Tempo is a worsted base that isn't stocked on the website yet (it's been limited release so far). This knit was a bit of a test run. Great stitch definition and drape!<br />

Next up is one of my own patterns,<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/gracewood-hat-and-mittens" target="_blank"> Gracewood Hat and Mittens,</a> which <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/viki-wallner" target="_blank">I released</a> in September. I'll just post a picture of one of the sets I've knit (in<a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/primrose/" target="_blank"> Primrose</a> and <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/electrolyte/" target="_blank">Electrolyte </a>in Artisan sock) but trust me when I say I could have shown you several more colour combinations - my favourite being <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/primrose/" target="_blank">Primrose</a> and <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/silhouette/" target="_blank">Silhouette</a>, I think. I've had a lot of these pass over my needles this year.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBsEZwj8KInGBE8fXJ5_vdGgv6MjKHS7i1jR-loWXYOvF1mIdHPqYXe3M3EQfKR9Ys64kR-x_NsQtAimh_jCW8jugFspD94gbr5iWXUVlkCw3HsvjWI7QuvzHlW3dw_3EqSG-BT3jNjJDE/s1600/IMG_3899+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBsEZwj8KInGBE8fXJ5_vdGgv6MjKHS7i1jR-loWXYOvF1mIdHPqYXe3M3EQfKR9Ys64kR-x_NsQtAimh_jCW8jugFspD94gbr5iWXUVlkCw3HsvjWI7QuvzHlW3dw_3EqSG-BT3jNjJDE/s320/IMG_3899+copy.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
Last time I showed you my first <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-falls-of-rauros" target="_blank">Falls of Rauros</a> sock by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/claire-ellen" target="_blank">Claire Ellen</a>. I finally finished the second one!! These took me quite a while to do. I find twisted ribbing hard on my hands and slow going. But worth it! I think this will make an awesome present for my mother in law. These are in Artisan sock in By the Seashore.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxEqgSveWNjP3DjjZ_49Ymh-toP5yKAeo6hZ4opWBD2PLtAHHDgkG4ZIJnBgyiTdB_m299E232GGMLuy1-8cC-FfBqRUZ1p98ibsB9t1jRA83LQPRjWVbk_4OTrVs-pv0-crv7Ubl8jYkB/s1600/IMG_1777_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxEqgSveWNjP3DjjZ_49Ymh-toP5yKAeo6hZ4opWBD2PLtAHHDgkG4ZIJnBgyiTdB_m299E232GGMLuy1-8cC-FfBqRUZ1p98ibsB9t1jRA83LQPRjWVbk_4OTrVs-pv0-crv7Ubl8jYkB/s320/IMG_1777_medium2.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And finally, I guess I'm getting a little excited about the upcoming holiday season. I have made a lot of new ornaments this year, most of which I've made extra special by using my favourite leftover Hazel Knits colours. </div>

I wouldn't be surprised if I whipped up a few more of these ornaments. I love a quick one day project. Makes me feel accomplished!<br />

Vol. 40<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As I was flitting around on <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/" target="_blank">Ravelry</a> the other day searching for inspiration, I couldn't help but notice a number of recently completed projects that had been made with <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/lively-dk-3/" target="_blank">Lively DK</a>. It got me wondering if perhaps as the weather cooled off people started looking for thicker and warmer projects. Maybe next month I'll see an upswing in cozy Cadence projects. I'll keep my eyes open for those. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For today's project round up I've selected 6 (well really 7) hot off the needles Lively projects!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The first project comes from Shawneen (ravelry name: NeeNeeKnits). Shawneen knit a beautiful <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/NeeNeeKnits/beachcombers-cowl" target="_blank">Beachcomber's Cowl</a> by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/melissa-thomson" target="_blank">Melissa Thomson</a> using club colours, Sizzle and Storm. That will keep the chill off your neck.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEid2rA4iMPAsfTxTFQGp5RKsv-ZlJa4wwhuqQilgsc4A8fwJm6a_jCk_Vc7fnXWBhacvH20J_Dt9DucIgWg9oRbZis-pQnGHyKwbsWHWA-BfVm_QMF4TCetGDboSz9NfVKW2zbYyvl2OEBP/s1600/image_medium2-1.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="291" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEid2rA4iMPAsfTxTFQGp5RKsv-ZlJa4wwhuqQilgsc4A8fwJm6a_jCk_Vc7fnXWBhacvH20J_Dt9DucIgWg9oRbZis-pQnGHyKwbsWHWA-BfVm_QMF4TCetGDboSz9NfVKW2zbYyvl2OEBP/s320/image_medium2-1.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Sherry (ravelry name: sccyeh) knit a yummy pair of <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/sccyeh/wrack" target="_blank">Wrack socks</a> by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/hunter-hammersen" target="_blank">Hunter Hammersen</a> in what is still one of my favourite colours, <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/euphorbia/" target="_blank">Euphorbia</a>.<br />
<br />

Toni (ravelry name: Triestina) knit this awesome <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/Triestina/unisex-cardigan" target="_blank">Unisex Cardigan</a> by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/kasia-lubinska" target="_blank">Kasia Lubinska</a> in Poppy. <br />
Speaking of stylish children! Theresa (ravelry name: hrvdmnky) knit two adorable coordinating <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/hrvdmnky/belle-isle" target="_blank">Belle Isle</a> dresses by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/heidi-atwood-reeves" target="_blank">Heidi Atwood-Reeves</a> in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/vamp/" target="_blank">Vamp</a> and <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/sassafras/" target="_blank">Sassafras</a>. I can't decide which colour arrangement I prefer.<br />
<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyrMLuAo758nyqFIxrXkEwPVb_njhXhRcwPdJj8ID4Y8z5yJk5_bamezZ0HGbphfoltJc5mW4O5kZAceebtM0IOOzHYJwZCn3jD4LYq2f5DNtgwm6YKq1Ww66ky94VU1vPFjhbF0eBtCo-/s1600/image_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="259" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyrMLuAo758nyqFIxrXkEwPVb_njhXhRcwPdJj8ID4Y8z5yJk5_bamezZ0HGbphfoltJc5mW4O5kZAceebtM0IOOzHYJwZCn3jD4LYq2f5DNtgwm6YKq1Ww66ky94VU1vPFjhbF0eBtCo-/s320/image_medium2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And keeping with the theme of knitting for children, RaptorKnitting (ravelry name) knit this stunning <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/RaptorKnitting/leafy-baby-blanket" target="_blank">Leafy Baby Blanket</a> by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/leyla-alieva" target="_blank">Leyla Alieva</a> in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/nekkid/" target="_blank">Nekkid</a> - A true heirloom quality project that I'm sure will be cherished for years.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Suzi's project page is full of huggable stuffies.<br />
<br />

I'm obviously spurred on by my participation in the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/claire-ellen-sock-club-14-15" target="_blank">Claire Ellen Lord of the Rings Sock Club</a>. I'm almost managing to keep up.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The one sock that I just can't seem to finish is February's <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-falls-of-rauros" target="_blank">The Falls of Rauros</a> socks. I've finished one sock and cast on the second, but those twisted stitches tend to hurt my hands so it isn't usually my first choice of projects to pick up despite how beautiful it is. I'm knitting mine in Artisan sock in an old club colour called By the Seashore.<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_vsIznMl4tj0Msrkl15hqikW-Mw-y36IM7FMycjRNKDfZkj2Z-KaTZMdPlMRqeAvhn2WZuCBDckwy-uX-o8mgHegLi3EvWU8L0C5QZ08q9-BkjwzWCmO9Xv1weDE5nFHUJa0xBlmu-oVm/s1600/IMG_1535_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_vsIznMl4tj0Msrkl15hqikW-Mw-y36IM7FMycjRNKDfZkj2Z-KaTZMdPlMRqeAvhn2WZuCBDckwy-uX-o8mgHegLi3EvWU8L0C5QZ08q9-BkjwzWCmO9Xv1weDE5nFHUJa0xBlmu-oVm/s320/IMG_1535_medium2.jpg" width="205" /></a></div>
<br />
But I did move on and finish March's beautiful cabled <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/in-the-golden-hall" target="_blank">In the Golden Hall </a>socks in the meantime. Mine are knit in Artisan sock in club colour Tapestry, a suitably golden colour.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVqgKt6XU5DCrw-F-Z0KOwJeqHeSU3bXpQjJ359VARZIXs-v_Yr3nUF9M_mjuNcTZr4H3VEmTKkIohaZcl0PfgZ5qu_8vPIGdhv0yAiUxg9Rku_DzbaviM6RhfuGtYMz92MMxe2CuKSckQ/s1600/image_medium2-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVqgKt6XU5DCrw-F-Z0KOwJeqHeSU3bXpQjJ359VARZIXs-v_Yr3nUF9M_mjuNcTZr4H3VEmTKkIohaZcl0PfgZ5qu_8vPIGdhv0yAiUxg9Rku_DzbaviM6RhfuGtYMz92MMxe2CuKSckQ/s320/image_medium2-2.jpg" width="247" /></a></div>
<br />
And I also finished April's delightfully textured <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-dead-marshes" target="_blank">The Dead Marshes</a> socks in Artisan sock in the slightly marshy club colour Hedgerow.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ6qdDcnQhLU4g0ZO8yUaeAGdbGrJSBLIbMVaVLeYlDyl9EsA3ziRW2tBzD0sYMF1v4bL5jwHOU0Hg3TZcgDQ04T5iutvKEz2r1tPn17_Hv_9P7BWiOjxDqDHxiTOnhUP75ri0QQE0l_20/s1600/image_medium2-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ6qdDcnQhLU4g0ZO8yUaeAGdbGrJSBLIbMVaVLeYlDyl9EsA3ziRW2tBzD0sYMF1v4bL5jwHOU0Hg3TZcgDQ04T5iutvKEz2r1tPn17_Hv_9P7BWiOjxDqDHxiTOnhUP75ri0QQE0l_20/s320/image_medium2-1.jpg" width="218" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And I'm halfway through May's intricate <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-dead-marshes" target="_blank">The Paths of the Dead </a>socks. The colour doesn't exactly go with the theme but it was time to liven up Middle Earth with some happy colours so I choose Artisan sock in Cherry Blossom. This way I can also participate in our current <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/hazel-knits-artisans/3189777/1-25#1" target="_blank">Ravelry knitalong</a> - Popular Patterns or Pinks! </div>

<br />
Our <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/hazel-knits-artisans/3142888/1-25#1" target="_blank">previous KAL</a> featured designs by the lovely <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/knittymelissa" target="_blank">KnittyMelissa</a>, so I joined in and knit the interesting <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/triple-threat-socks" target="_blank">Triple Threat</a> socks in Artisan sock in the club colour Smudge. I hadn't worked with beads much before and found it very fun. I'm sure I'll be selecting more beaded patterns in the future.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvrD49kQ6cAFd1CKxMKqG3p_G4eWmBIrIz0c6wxygCOnnaujVkxGgEnNoi3-kqvwlK0I4rTS7UEd43qu_0rbuDU_z8lOerPFzjsIucUAefYGn7LrjA-2qZ2viDzaZZG2GFgF6Ceahgm5A1/s1600/IMG_1574_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvrD49kQ6cAFd1CKxMKqG3p_G4eWmBIrIz0c6wxygCOnnaujVkxGgEnNoi3-kqvwlK0I4rTS7UEd43qu_0rbuDU_z8lOerPFzjsIucUAefYGn7LrjA-2qZ2viDzaZZG2GFgF6Ceahgm5A1/s320/IMG_1574_medium2.jpg" width="270" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also knit myself a fun short sleeved sweater, <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/Viki/global-warming" target="_blank">Global Warming</a> by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/suvi-simola" target="_blank">Suvi Simola</a>, in Cadence in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/lipstick-1984-1/" target="_blank">Lipstick 1984</a>. I had to make a few adjustments to the pattern since it was written for only one size (smaller than me). I added a few stitches, added some length and knit at a slightly looser gauge and came up with a sweater exactly like I was hoping for. I'd say I can't wait for Winter to wear it again, but I totally can. I can wait a long, long time if it means it is warm out for a while.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
One of the fun things I occasionally get to do is knit samples for Hazel Knits' Trunk Shows. It's a great opportunity for me to knit things I wouldn't usually choose to knit for myself. Like shawls. Don't get me wrong, I think they are beautiful and super fun to knit, but I just can't figure out how to wear them. I never feel quite comfortable or myself. Hey, but that's just me. I guess I'm more of a scarf wrapped about my neck three times kinda gal.<br />
<br />
My most recent sample knit was the stunning <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/darwin-shawl" target="_blank">Darwin Shawl</a> by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/verybusymonkey" target="_blank">verybusymonkey</a> in Entice in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/pine-forest/" target="_blank">Pine Forest</a>. I knit the large size and used a touch more than 600 yards.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And finally, I finalized and published a <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/follow-hat" target="_blank">hat</a> and <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/follow-mittens" target="_blank">mitten</a> set called <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/follow-hat-and-mittens" target="_blank">Follow</a> (each pattern also available individually). All knit in Artisan sock, the colour combinations I used were: <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/queen-of-the-night/" target="_blank">Queen of the Night</a> with <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/hydrangea/" target="_blank">Hydrangea</a>, <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/splish-splash/" target="_blank">Splish Splash</a> with <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/sassafras/" target="_blank">Sassafras</a>, Storm with <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/crescent-1/" target="_blank">Crescent</a>, and Red Carpet with a Rogue orange.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Work is continuing on my "in progress" socks, another design which is almost done and who knows what else! Maybe a popular pattern in pink so I can continue participating in the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/hazel-knits-artisans/3189777/1-25#1" target="_blank">current KAL</a>. And of course, I'll be casting on my June <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/claire-ellen-sock-club-14-15" target="_blank">LOTR</a> socks in less than two weeks!<br />
<br />
Happy Knitting!<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6EU9lVO32SayxohyjpQmXMUwlmxuB2mR1s2i1feh3Eo5GWULME9D9ZHon_GnbRWkMHMbUC9HqdHdZlIbdeKkkjwajQcgWCAryeCIxKd3eRidwYVnWeEeoU8k8tBqqO4lEIycWf1CHuAfO/s1600/phinney-ridge_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6EU9lVO32SayxohyjpQmXMUwlmxuB2mR1s2i1feh3Eo5GWULME9D9ZHon_GnbRWkMHMbUC9HqdHdZlIbdeKkkjwajQcgWCAryeCIxKd3eRidwYVnWeEeoU8k8tBqqO4lEIycWf1CHuAfO/s320/phinney-ridge_1.jpg" width="211" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Phinney Ridge is a blue-purple-teal color that was inspired by both the flowers in the Phinney Ridge neighborhood and also by the colored stripes on our light rail trains. This color is only available on Cadence during the LYS tour and is only available at The Fiber Gallery. This super cute hat pattern is designed by <a href="http://blog.indieknits.com/2015/05/fiber-gallery-2015-lys-tour-pattern.html" target="_blank">Cory Ellen Boberg of Indie.Knits</a>. <a href="http://www.fibergallery.com/contact" target="_blank">The Fiber Gallery</a> will happily ship. 206-706-4197<br />

<br />
We also teamed up with the JANe creators for a new kit with a new yarn color, only available at <a href="http://wildfibers.net/" target="_blank">Wildfibers in Mt. Vernon.</a> <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
The new color, Aloe is dyed on our Tempo yarn base. This warm, cabled hat was designed by Melissa Goodale of <a href="http://scknits.com/" target="_blank">Stick Chick Knits</a> and the fresh new yarn bag was created by <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/dancingsheep" target="_blank">Dancing Sheep</a>. Wildfibers has a limited quantity for the LYS tour - and will also ship - 360-336-5202. The kit is $56.95.<br />
<br />
Have a fun, safe LYS tour, PNW folks!<br />

Vol. 38I spent a little time last week poking around Ravelry and found some new projects knit in Hazel Knits that I'm dying to share with you.<br />
<br />
Like usual, I'm inspired by the patterns, the colour choices and the photography.<br />
<br />
Let's have a look, shall we?<br />
<br />
Up first today, is Anj's (ravname: knittyanj) <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/knittyanj/cruiser" target="_blank">Cruiser </a>mittens by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/cailyn-meyer" target="_blank">Cailyn Meyer.</a> Anj chose to knit her fantastic mittens in Cadence in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/lichen-1/" target="_blank">Lichen</a>. Anj run <a href="http://www.meadowyarn.co.uk/" target="_blank">Meadow Yarns</a> in the UK, our UK HK stockist. I'm not sure how she was able to narrow down her choice, what with a range of Cadence colours to choose from at her fingertips, but I think Lichen was the perfect choice for these mittens.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSysxs_WK-bVRgDqKL-FVWZJqzeZYtX0_Xarfh5dzLszOKNE1dxfweBpDX8XdO2hyphenhyphenhUD8p1jemiDegcwrfk8dIlQ9JBoYbq3vkWSCOwrriMHImKwDgH1KxE2VB9bLwXhv9TM2Z-D-0uoVx/s1600/DSCF4599_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSysxs_WK-bVRgDqKL-FVWZJqzeZYtX0_Xarfh5dzLszOKNE1dxfweBpDX8XdO2hyphenhyphenhUD8p1jemiDegcwrfk8dIlQ9JBoYbq3vkWSCOwrriMHImKwDgH1KxE2VB9bLwXhv9TM2Z-D-0uoVx/s1600/DSCF4599_medium2.jpeg" height="212" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Gail (ravname: writergirl3) was the first person to post a completed pair of <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/writergirl3/triple-threat-socks" target="_blank">Triple Threat Socks</a> by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/knittymelissa" target="_blank">Knittymelissa</a> as part of our March/April Ravelry knitalong. She chose to knit her stunning pair in last month's featured colour, <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/icicle/" target="_blank">Icicle</a> in Piquant Lite. The beads add the perfect icy touch.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaIlEd3GUFE9k4ewjRXtX8YgWNvjADCJ621e5RMd5PgseVpG7N_KX9O_mxgjun-NxPF_APmEjHmZ9hUhfGyKMx166NI1j65KxeBISOg7NvyfEket-cZfOCG9k7hcAKy9OZEO39ICQbpD73/s1600/image_medium2-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaIlEd3GUFE9k4ewjRXtX8YgWNvjADCJ621e5RMd5PgseVpG7N_KX9O_mxgjun-NxPF_APmEjHmZ9hUhfGyKMx166NI1j65KxeBISOg7NvyfEket-cZfOCG9k7hcAKy9OZEO39ICQbpD73/s1600/image_medium2-1.jpg" height="320" width="216" /></a></div>
<br />
Emily (ravname: emarkus) knit a beautiful <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/emarkus/washington-park-shawl" target="_blank">Washington Park Shawl</a> by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/debbi-stone" target="_blank">Debbi Stone</a> in the lovely combination of <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/lichen-1/" target="_blank">Lichen</a> and <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/plum-glace/" target="_blank">Plum Glace</a> in Entice. I'm starting to think Lichen goes with almost every colour. This pattern was one of the <a href="http://www.rosecityyarncrawl.com/" target="_blank">Rose City Yarn Crawl'</a>s 2015 mystery patterns.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Check out Gail's (ravname: islandbirdknits) amazing <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/islandbirdknits/princess-fiona" target="_blank">Princess Fiona</a> sweater by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/amy-miller" target="_blank">Amy Miller</a>. Gail's sweater is in Artisan sock in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/jam-session/" target="_blank">Jam Session</a> and it looks like it fits her perfectly. I'm sure it will get a lot of wear.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_6miW7ul8o15gOlskgfZR8-9YWBKfovJBaLaiLoGIitUKksRgobTeZIlo46CKGrVImGAHe_U1aTi9hVvWug_ZANBTxJUl-EVV3BTWi-8D2hFhA5YZrgBdiacIv6QxQhCzy-Lr50IzJDxz/s1600/image_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_6miW7ul8o15gOlskgfZR8-9YWBKfovJBaLaiLoGIitUKksRgobTeZIlo46CKGrVImGAHe_U1aTi9hVvWug_ZANBTxJUl-EVV3BTWi-8D2hFhA5YZrgBdiacIv6QxQhCzy-Lr50IzJDxz/s1600/image_medium2.jpg" height="320" width="229" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm amazed by the stitch definition on Mallorie's (ravname: VandyGirl) <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/VandyGirl/linesx3" target="_blank">Linesx3 </a>socks by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/jeannie-cartmel" target="_blank">Jeannie Cartmel.</a> They are knit in Piquant Lite in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/hoppy-blonde/" target="_blank">Hoppy Blonde</a> and the texture is out of this world!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Sandy(ravname: Sandals) knit this classy <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/Sandals/smokeberry" target="_blank">Smokeberry</a> cowl by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/wendy-neal" target="_blank">Wendy Neal</a>. Knit in Lively DK in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/tropical-sunset-1/" target="_blank">Tropical Sunset</a> it has a delicateness about it that speaks to me. So pretty!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbtuHIdi9EAcLUQc2v_4IyLUuFYcYu72BFSX2ROV0oaRNpM0p6_HpPZyNfeoMMrQDeTVdiP5jb98v2qk-WbGHnxy6Y2ViU0pAZr6eRzhwF2AXgbpBy6tZEStP3lguBKvx8s2vmwfaBpAQ1/s1600/IMG_8045_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbtuHIdi9EAcLUQc2v_4IyLUuFYcYu72BFSX2ROV0oaRNpM0p6_HpPZyNfeoMMrQDeTVdiP5jb98v2qk-WbGHnxy6Y2ViU0pAZr6eRzhwF2AXgbpBy6tZEStP3lguBKvx8s2vmwfaBpAQ1/s1600/IMG_8045_medium2.jpg" height="210" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And finally, Hilary (ravname: hthomps) knit this gorgeous pair of <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/hthomps/contrapposto" target="_blank">Contrapposto </a>socks by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/heidi-nick" target="_blank">Heidi Nick </a>and<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/claire-ellen" target="_blank"> Claire Ellen</a> in Artisan sock in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/citrus-blossom-1/" target="_blank">Citrus Blossom</a>. <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/contrapposto" target="_blank">Contrapposto</a> was our January/February mystery knitalong pattern on Ravelry and these socks are a joyous representation of what that KAL (and all our KALs) was all about (even with its snowy background). of old - written family recipes, faded photo albums - and other record

"A shimacho–or stripe album–is a keepsake of home weaving swatches which
was composed by families to remember the cloth they’ve woven. It’s been
said that girls leaving their homes upon marriage would carry such an
album with them to their husband’s family’s home in order to replicate
or be inspired by her family’s woven cloth..."<br /> <br />

</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The last few months I've definitely gotten my knit on. So many projects have come off my needles (I've already knit 10 socks so far this year)! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This is <b>not </b>usual for me. I knit a lot but I'm not the person who takes their knitting everywhere with them. I don't even knit in front of other people. I'm starting to think maybe I've been isolated at home this winter more than usual (it has been extremely cold this winter and I hate the cold). At least I've got my knitting to keep me company. And a nice pot of tea.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
It probably also helps that I've joined a super fun sock pattern club and I've developed a serious crush on Cadence.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Let me show you what I've knit since the last time I posted an update.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
My last finished knit for 2014 was probably one of my favourites for the whole year. I knit this <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lodgepole-cowl" target="_blank">Lodgepole Cowl</a> by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/sara-gresbach" target="_blank">Sara Gresbach</a> in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/cadence-worsted-1/" target="_blank">Cadence</a> in Lipstick 1984 and <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/frost/" target="_blank">Frost</a>. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2hJ7_ZsDkHKYXwVihOvsOS8FybfnB-Yx1aphF-Bc-kOA1AleXeoFsRv87uEm5EdLAuWceslqXRl5aJh6A4ywTUvrhzx6GX6lBAZ9Wqbm2oAOrSTB0LkZwCO3t8uzG_ld8Qoqia7wKYnj1/s1600/image_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2hJ7_ZsDkHKYXwVihOvsOS8FybfnB-Yx1aphF-Bc-kOA1AleXeoFsRv87uEm5EdLAuWceslqXRl5aJh6A4ywTUvrhzx6GX6lBAZ9Wqbm2oAOrSTB0LkZwCO3t8uzG_ld8Qoqia7wKYnj1/s1600/image_medium2.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I adore these two colours together and never would have thought to combine them myself. The inspiration came from my Nike shoes. So now I have a cute matching cowl/shoe set to walk the neighbourhood in when Spring finally arrives. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifyPoMRko7KhwmuA7_Go49O1eQFADq9BKMYZ5B0Hv4JdUTZ8HwdYaRtqmxez91xEKDbxB-0eRVI59Ek_3-hqtZFWB7b7b6aLIwjyoMtsB050TOhyphenhyphenKkqTiLjpYQDEXZ8obrhlqMnWINt-6M/s1600/image_medium2-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><br /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifyPoMRko7KhwmuA7_Go49O1eQFADq9BKMYZ5B0Hv4JdUTZ8HwdYaRtqmxez91xEKDbxB-0eRVI59Ek_3-hqtZFWB7b7b6aLIwjyoMtsB050TOhyphenhyphenKkqTiLjpYQDEXZ8obrhlqMnWINt-6M/s1600/image_medium2-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifyPoMRko7KhwmuA7_Go49O1eQFADq9BKMYZ5B0Hv4JdUTZ8HwdYaRtqmxez91xEKDbxB-0eRVI59Ek_3-hqtZFWB7b7b6aLIwjyoMtsB050TOhyphenhyphenKkqTiLjpYQDEXZ8obrhlqMnWINt-6M/s1600/image_medium2-1.jpg" height="320" style="cursor: move;" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
My first project for 2015 was another cowl in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/cadence-worsted-1/" target="_blank">Cadence</a>. This one is the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/swing-time-4" target="_blank">Swingtime Cowl</a> designed by our own <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/wendee-shulsen" target="_blank">Wendee Shulsen</a>. Mine is knit in White Winged Dove, Smolder and Smudge. I think it is a very sophisticated combination. I can see wearing it with a nice black, dressy wool coat. There are some <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/color-kits/" target="_blank">Swingtime kits </a>available in the HK online store (this colour combination is currently out of stock).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjy7dBIgS6ilYFvAGfFw2BgdcvnjKTlb-nZusxMWjFNsBZAk5HVmGv_r9CnPRbb5R8SECZ975jTgt5bgp1_IWxEFD9_w6yB1FlZ_hOcEP__GssoLp5etB-6LEsbENQA8ZNWo5QgAAvgwagC/s1600/image_medium2-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjy7dBIgS6ilYFvAGfFw2BgdcvnjKTlb-nZusxMWjFNsBZAk5HVmGv_r9CnPRbb5R8SECZ975jTgt5bgp1_IWxEFD9_w6yB1FlZ_hOcEP__GssoLp5etB-6LEsbENQA8ZNWo5QgAAvgwagC/s1600/image_medium2-2.jpg" height="320" width="231" /></a></div>
<br />
As I mentioned above, I've joined a sock pattern club that is keeping me knitting. <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/claire-ellen" target="_blank">Claire Ellen's</a> <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/claire-ellen-sock-club-14-15" target="_blank">sock club</a> includes patterns inspired by locations in the Lord of the Rings.<br />
<br />
The most recent patterns I've finished are December's <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cozy-on-caradhras" target="_blank">Cozy on Caradhras </a>in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/artisan-sock-fingering/" target="_blank">Artisan Sock</a> in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/silhouette/" target="_blank">Silhouette</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Followed by January's <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-long-dark-of-moria" target="_blank">The Long Dark of Moria</a> in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/artisan-sock-fingering/" target="_blank">Artisan Sock</a> in Smolder.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCzp3O1WqJRdIUv8swcUHeUAnjvVZks_R1_LjQx114O71Dj_d3cTm-LDEqXOK4wQek3eNqow5wdrg5l8_nrOC28-XKzodph6nm_dISzHG5PZoRF2knawIL2H58havP74SoZQmzFDbrektt/s1600/IMG_1526.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCzp3O1WqJRdIUv8swcUHeUAnjvVZks_R1_LjQx114O71Dj_d3cTm-LDEqXOK4wQek3eNqow5wdrg5l8_nrOC28-XKzodph6nm_dISzHG5PZoRF2knawIL2H58havP74SoZQmzFDbrektt/s1600/IMG_1526.jpg" height="320" width="292" /></a></div>
<br />
And my most recent cast on is February's <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-falls-of-rauros" target="_blank">The Falls of Rauros</a> in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/artisan-sock-fingering/" target="_blank">Artisan Sock</a> in club colour By the Seashore.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfpu8Osq7b3pYWzSy4SrO99G0oHb6w36xViQfEamoUL3KZzNRwE-ShVciS7-b8oVj2VWWITIawQC9jTfaq3Wv8CXvR_t40Pmtr8WTSHw_DkZfa_taPPA-29vPbFPbn1f9DeWi8P-JeWHv1/s1600/IMG_1525.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfpu8Osq7b3pYWzSy4SrO99G0oHb6w36xViQfEamoUL3KZzNRwE-ShVciS7-b8oVj2VWWITIawQC9jTfaq3Wv8CXvR_t40Pmtr8WTSHw_DkZfa_taPPA-29vPbFPbn1f9DeWi8P-JeWHv1/s1600/IMG_1525.jpg" height="320" width="305" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Each pattern is so different from the last - cables, knit-purl patterns and twisted rib - and inspired. And the best part ... each of these patterns would qualify for the current <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/hazel-knits-artisans/3095132/1-25#1" target="_blank">Hazel Knits Ravelry KAL </a>featuring patterns by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/claire-ellen" target="_blank">Claire Ellen</a> and <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/heidi-nick" target="_blank">Heidi Nick</a> (you know, if I wasn't the one hosting the KAL and could qualify - but you totally would qualify).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Speaking of the current KAL, I used it as motivation to finish my second <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/tree-people" target="_blank">Tree People</a> sock by<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/heidi-nick" target="_blank"> Heidi Nick</a>. This pattern was our May/June mystery KAL from last year and I knit mine in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/artisan-sock-fingering/" target="_blank">Artisan Sock</a> in the club colour Coleus. This is a beautiful sock that taught me an important lesson. Always cast on the second sock as soon as the first is finished or I risk getting distracted by something shiny. The second sock was finished during a very enjoyable week of knitting and I felt shame for having let it sit so long (staring at me every day in my office).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCzp3O1WqJRdIUv8swcUHeUAnjvVZks_R1_LjQx114O71Dj_d3cTm-LDEqXOK4wQek3eNqow5wdrg5l8_nrOC28-XKzodph6nm_dISzHG5PZoRF2knawIL2H58havP74SoZQmzFDbrektt/s1600/IMG_1526.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCCMF_fXKSyp519XngCSt2qffvKl-K6hBP9WW0JNeQpld-wTtudlHYMOhXK4sMAaUMg6u_aNfpMbZWV5Mf-WpVu_l_zN1WGrFRi7Xj8b1WJaZZ_WWcFAkdEJcFxHhBzpEuD9Mgoes-2hkG/s1600/image_medium2-5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCCMF_fXKSyp519XngCSt2qffvKl-K6hBP9WW0JNeQpld-wTtudlHYMOhXK4sMAaUMg6u_aNfpMbZWV5Mf-WpVu_l_zN1WGrFRi7Xj8b1WJaZZ_WWcFAkdEJcFxHhBzpEuD9Mgoes-2hkG/s1600/image_medium2-5.jpg" height="320" width="248" /></a></div>
<br />
Do you know what is very popular this year? Boot toppers. Sock legs that stick out the top of high boots so that you don't have to have a lot of bulk in your boot. Well, this is a trend I could get behind so I quickly cast on and finished a pair of <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ballymeade-boot-toppers" target="_blank">Ballymeade Boot Toppers</a> by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/robin-ulrich" target="_blank">Robin Ulrich</a> in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/cadence-worsted-1/" target="_blank">Cadence </a>(told you I had a crush) in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/ruby-love/" target="_blank">Ruby Love</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3bDojh45fN3WAFeeTR4iGM_mZyyabHqqLjSBcPBEZYU4n4-DdQNyALhAr527vunH3KpAPkRte9d4DIIAa9qEeKzyhrnFMXLSbiFTqx8uGQpXlkzYJVxzi-5kyxpu5A7WficeCluzBh6rj/s1600/image_medium2-4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3bDojh45fN3WAFeeTR4iGM_mZyyabHqqLjSBcPBEZYU4n4-DdQNyALhAr527vunH3KpAPkRte9d4DIIAa9qEeKzyhrnFMXLSbiFTqx8uGQpXlkzYJVxzi-5kyxpu5A7WficeCluzBh6rj/s1600/image_medium2-4.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
They add a wonderful pop of colour to a normally dark outfit. And just a touch of extra warmth against the wind. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR102olBdsEP-W9VckhHVWWp8jfkxON536PJ4SB6UCzXjf6c8M2ZMJhQL_pWOghsPcnUwDkRjK8E9u9w1gbqjUD3VwmpGMyBgZbbA10_VyIb83HBKF4XTY3voU5ICXPXKJV_ChDuUzi7uQ/s1600/image_medium2-6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR102olBdsEP-W9VckhHVWWp8jfkxON536PJ4SB6UCzXjf6c8M2ZMJhQL_pWOghsPcnUwDkRjK8E9u9w1gbqjUD3VwmpGMyBgZbbA10_VyIb83HBKF4XTY3voU5ICXPXKJV_ChDuUzi7uQ/s1600/image_medium2-6.jpg" height="320" width="216" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

Hmmm ... I wonder what I should knit with Cadence next? Any suggestions?</div>

Say hello to February 2015's<a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/color-of-the-month/" target="_blank"> Featured Color of the Month</a> - Icicle!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Icicle is a soft, yet bright turquoise blue. This color will be 10% off the regular price throughout the month of February.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And because I know this question will inevitably be posed, here is a quick snapshot of Icicle and Cirrus together.</div>

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Cirrus (smaller picture) is more blue in hue and more textured, whereas Cirrus is more turquoise and dyed in a tonal solid manner.</div>

Thanks to everyone who left a comment. You all sound so talented with your wide assortment of crafts. I am more than a little jealous.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am primarily a knitter. I'd say it is my only serious craft. I can crochet. I have embroidered some ornaments over the last couple of years. And I have a sewing machine (I should get it out of the box one of these days). I would love to be able to spin. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The winner of the beautiful Famous Frocks is Jessica. Jessica, I will be in touch shortly through Ravelry to get your information. </div>

Today's book review is a little different from our usual review. I'm not featuring a knitting book but a sewing book - the beautiful <b><i><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Famous-Frocks-Patterns-Garments-Inspired/dp/1452123659/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1418134472&sr=8-1&keywords=dolin+bliss" target="_blank">Famous Frocks: The Little Black Dress</a></i></b> by friend of Hazel Knits, Dolin Bliss O'Shea (published by Chronicle Books with photography by Daniel Castro).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I know many of you are bi-craftual or even multi-craftual (smartypants!) so if you are a sewer, interested in sewing or just love vintage clothing you should check this book out. Dolin looks at 10 influential Little Black Dresses (LBD) and reinterprets them to come up with 20 garments that would look at home in most wardrobes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeCW0mA-wk4H6-AQ85yw7YKDLA11XO3V7APqWAFbDgXmvOMhMAPYVsHDdegfcKrRRfsJPA76wDAf5tWxN1jLRcx8sF9WPpeH18IgOfgkQkweEGLMC4agTzsCAUYMyQzBN1tzAlxTcBKT5L/s1600/41ftYjhI9uL.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeCW0mA-wk4H6-AQ85yw7YKDLA11XO3V7APqWAFbDgXmvOMhMAPYVsHDdegfcKrRRfsJPA76wDAf5tWxN1jLRcx8sF9WPpeH18IgOfgkQkweEGLMC4agTzsCAUYMyQzBN1tzAlxTcBKT5L/s1600/41ftYjhI9uL.jpg" height="320" width="232" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm not a sewer myself (yet!) so have a look at this <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xInKgoQATXo&feature=youtu.be&list=UUnTTFXBHD9hKD7hL8ChF-iw" target="_blank">short video summary</a> of the book for more details or visit Dolin's website, <a href="http://www.lulubliss.com/">www.lulubliss.com</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Dolin is also a knitwear designer, so be sure to check out her <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/dolin-bliss-oshea" target="_blank">patterns on Ravelry</a>. She has some very cute scarves!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Dolin and here's what she had to say: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>HK - Let's start with the basics, in addition to your new book Famous Frocks: The Little Black Dress, you have also published several knitting patterns. When did you learn to sew and knit and who taught you?</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">DO - I grew up watching my mom sew, knit and crochet. For some reason, I only learned how to crochet from her. I learned to sew, right after high school, when I went away to college to study fashion design. There were many late nights and a lot of tears that first year at my sewing machine. In my early 20's I taught myself how to knit from a 1940's home economics book (with very few pictures). I collect vintage craft books, so I have taught myself all sorts of sewing, knitting and crochet techniques from them. I didn't knit much until my 30's, when found out I had been knitting incorrectly all those years, I was twisting my stitches and didn't even know it. When I finally started making my knit stitches correctly, boy that was an eye-opener, it became so much easier and enjoyable.</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>HK - Famous Frocks is a wonderful look back at vintage designs. Did your love of vintage clothing come from a love of old movies? Is there an era of clothing that you love in particular?</b></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">DO - I have always felt I was born in the wrong era, the 1970's, which isn't my favorite era for clothing or movies. I have always been drawn to clothing and movies from the 1920's through to the 1960's. If I had to pick one era it would be the 1920's, the beautiful clothing so reflected what was happening in that era. Women were freed from corsets and got the right to vote... I would have done the Charleston in my little flapper dress too.</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>HK - The Little Black dress is a staple for so many wardrobes, I currently have five in my own, what is it that you think draws people to the LBD?</b></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8gBtLqIFLqkLC1Xq2o6z5FCmlCjD61h0uYA0M6qKzolC7oUGe0dJvnc9LnWTKAmSqC3lbRmxY-Pl9vf43A7m3opYN3OxOE0Hqj2Ve-tZeKsHVrMPpJN_bwPhFk8YMl7OEayI6Ua28838l/s1600/81X31WBdjCL.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8gBtLqIFLqkLC1Xq2o6z5FCmlCjD61h0uYA0M6qKzolC7oUGe0dJvnc9LnWTKAmSqC3lbRmxY-Pl9vf43A7m3opYN3OxOE0Hqj2Ve-tZeKsHVrMPpJN_bwPhFk8YMl7OEayI6Ua28838l/s1600/81X31WBdjCL.jpg" height="231" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
DO - I feel people are drawn to first the timelessness of the LBD, if you pick one with classic style lines, it won't go out of style for a very long time. Also the versatility of the LBD is a huge draw, you can dress it down with a cardigan and ballet flats or dress it up with some statement jewelry and fabulous heels. The LBD is really a blank slate and gives you permission to have fun with accent pieces and accessories.<br />
<br />
<b>HK - The book was obviously a huge undertaking, besides your own designs do you have the time to knit or sew for pleasure? Do you knit or sew other designers' designs or mostly work on your own creations?</b></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
DO- Oh my, there is so little time and so very many things I want to make! I think every person who makes things runs into this conundrum. I do like to try other designers designs out, more so with knitting and crochet patterns. With sewing, I find that I end up making a lot of fit adjustments for my body type, that it is sometimes easier to start out with my own pattern. But with so many great independently designed sewing patterns out there, I just can't resist certain patterns and have to sew one up for myself. Most of my pleasure knitting/crocheting is done if I am watching tv, so I tend to gravitate towards more simple designs. Since I deal with so much math in my day job as a technical designer/pattern maker, I don't want to think a whole lot when I have time to knit. Sadly, I don't think I will ever be an intricate lace knitter or have the patience to make a lovely Aran sweater.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<b>HK - With this book out in the world, what's next?</b></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
DO - I would love to write another book eventually, but for now my consulting work as a technical designer and pattern maker is keeping me very busy.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgegqaQUq2q9MzRaKtYXROZoOOMc3T7BUwJWNbSu332cPIf7Bg8pIer9YZF6SCwZqTevY32ur7-CTAnz54h-pRuh0UigN9znW3bpn6h-9tQ5x0SmY4dHoOjnWHUavMZ3lAkqjGeuayNQZ9C/s1600/51FfbcL61AL.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgegqaQUq2q9MzRaKtYXROZoOOMc3T7BUwJWNbSu332cPIf7Bg8pIer9YZF6SCwZqTevY32ur7-CTAnz54h-pRuh0UigN9znW3bpn6h-9tQ5x0SmY4dHoOjnWHUavMZ3lAkqjGeuayNQZ9C/s1600/51FfbcL61AL.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>

<br />
One of the quickest projects (at least for me) is a great hat, especially one knit in a worsted weight like <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/cadence-worsted-1/" target="_blank">Cadence</a>.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/cory-ellen-boberg" target="_blank">Cory Ellen Boberg</a>'s cute <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/pip-10" target="_blank">Pip</a> hat (shown in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/braeburn/" target="_blank">Braeburn</a> in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/cadence-worsted-1/" target="_blank">Cadence</a>) would certainly knit up very quickly.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgva1LVQ8U35x5VvaZSAGAJyOjhIs7TKPZKzQop1NZYxOr7wP5-fLukn4Cw5SKAEL_8U2cGcooPBT4qf9f2quEbA7cJMPjcTIlvIn6IPvmiL5YhhXC8AhKzdeRxGZ_MpQGQkAlY3iyoUQYJ/s1600/14909430524_8419659134_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgva1LVQ8U35x5VvaZSAGAJyOjhIs7TKPZKzQop1NZYxOr7wP5-fLukn4Cw5SKAEL_8U2cGcooPBT4qf9f2quEbA7cJMPjcTIlvIn6IPvmiL5YhhXC8AhKzdeRxGZ_MpQGQkAlY3iyoUQYJ/s1600/14909430524_8419659134_n.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
As would <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/katherine-leek" target="_blank">Katherine Leek</a>'s cozy <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/summit-hat" target="_blank">Summit Hat</a> (shown in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/ruby-love/" target="_blank">Ruby Love</a> in Tempo; <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/cadence-worsted-1/" target="_blank">Cadence</a> would be a perfect substitute).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7NYrbiyVmBhYXFBEayc0ewVIAtYe5RhMNIvwuECopKd1cROcP58vZsw6-x9hb52vmjPaZ3Hx_HV3TAmRnHXQXQQVUyXbxmZUAG8q5vPacfaFOVBSS7paEMwJXaZvqNI4O3kZ1xioZLauD/s1600/IMG_9436_square_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7NYrbiyVmBhYXFBEayc0ewVIAtYe5RhMNIvwuECopKd1cROcP58vZsw6-x9hb52vmjPaZ3Hx_HV3TAmRnHXQXQQVUyXbxmZUAG8q5vPacfaFOVBSS7paEMwJXaZvqNI4O3kZ1xioZLauD/s1600/IMG_9436_square_medium2.JPG" height="320" width="319" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Boots are all the rage right now. How about a pair of jazzy boot toppers like <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/jennifer-chase-rappaport" target="_blank">Jennifer Chase Rappaport</a>'s <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/leaves-boot-cuffs" target="_blank">Leaves Boot Cuff </a>(shown in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/portobello/" target="_blank">Portobello</a> in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/lively-dk-3/" target="_blank">Lively DK</a>) to finish off the look?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Personally, I always round out my holiday knitting with something new to add to my tree. This year I knit up two of <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/tincanknits" target="_blank">Tin Can Knits</a>' <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fancy-balls" target="_blank">Fancy Balls</a> (shown in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/artisan-sock-fingering/" target="_blank">Artisan Sock</a> in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/euphorbia/" target="_blank">Euphorbia</a>, <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/nickel/" target="_blank">Nickel</a> and Red Carpet; <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/ruby-love/" target="_blank">Ruby Love</a> would be a great substitute). I knit both of these in an afternoon!</div>

Of course, if someone on your list is a knitter themselves, maybe the experience of using one of your favourite Hazel Knit yarns would be the best gift of all. <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/gift-certificates/" target="_blank">Gift cards </a>are available on the <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/" target="_blank">Hazel Knits website</a>. </div>

And, don't worry, there is nothing wrong with hinting that you'd like one yourself.Vikihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08060574914469332789noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3125435445862082553.post-83109208923026079202014-11-11T15:53:00.001-08:002014-11-11T15:53:30.342-08:00What the HK is on Viki's Needles?<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After a slow summer of knitting, I think I've finally got my knitting mojo back and the result is an awesome assortment of finished objects. I've got some beauties to share with you today.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I recently bought myself a new winter coat, so what was a girl to do? Why knit herself a hat, of course. And if that hat fits into categories of the KAL she was hosting, well that just makes good sense. The result, a gorgeous <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gather" target="_blank">Gather Hat</a> by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/tin-can-knits" target="_blank">Tin Can Knits</a> knit in Cadence in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/iris/" target="_blank">Iris</a>. Unfortunately, it's already had a lot of wear and it's only early November. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEie3wCfxelchPkavMQk0LhjHC_cJ1xf-F_hfjOKqTydiJyIHBkiBjXEsWtpWMzrjlcidooaCTJjHHVu9x93eRlHeUX2hyIrn8zztOa5RlRGXawly7pLqztjnbVQ3IpTJcdx7V6ymCcBeWza/s1600/image_medium2-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEie3wCfxelchPkavMQk0LhjHC_cJ1xf-F_hfjOKqTydiJyIHBkiBjXEsWtpWMzrjlcidooaCTJjHHVu9x93eRlHeUX2hyIrn8zztOa5RlRGXawly7pLqztjnbVQ3IpTJcdx7V6ymCcBeWza/s320/image_medium2-1.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I also subscribed to a new sock club from <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/claire-ellen" target="_blank">Claire Ellen</a>. I now have a year's worth of Lord of the Rings themed socks ahead of me to knit. I started with the October pattern and am very pleased with my <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-sign-of-the-prancing-pony" target="_blank">The Sign of the Prancing Pony </a>socks. I knit mine in Artisan Sock in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/sandalwood/" target="_blank">Sandalwood</a>. A very pony colour, I think.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I had so much fun with my October socks that I immediately cast on the November socks as soon as they became available. I've already finished the first of my <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/weathertop-socks" target="_blank">Weathertop Socks</a>. I chose to knit this pair in Artisan Sock in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/pine-forest/" target="_blank">Pine Forest </a>so that I could double dip with the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/hazel-knits-artisans/3056201/1-25#1" target="_blank">current Hazel Knits KAL</a> I'm hosting on Ravelry - WIPS/Gifts/Greens. And don't worry, I've already cast on the second sock so that it will be ready to go as soon I finish up a couple of gift knits.<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And finally, this last project I consider a real accomplishment. A completed adult sweater that I actually wear! This is my<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lady-sunnyside" target="_blank"> Lady Sunnyside</a> by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/designers/tanis-lavallee" target="_blank">Tanis Lavallee</a> in Cadence in <a href="http://www.hazelknits.com/twilight/" target="_blank">Twilight</a>. Just don't tell anyone I still haven't found any buttons for it yet. </div>

I hope you've enjoyed seeing my projects as much as I've enjoyed knitting and wearing them.<br />
<br />
Keep on knitting!Vikihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08060574914469332789noreply@blogger.com0
