What the HK is on Your Needles? Vol. 38

I spent a little time last week poking around Ravelry and found some new projects knit in Hazel Knits that I'm dying to share with you.

Like usual, I'm inspired by the patterns, the colour choices and the photography.

Let's have a look, shall we?

Up first today, is Anj's (ravname: knittyanj) Cruiser mittens by Cailyn Meyer. Anj chose to knit her fantastic mittens in Cadence in Lichen. Anj run Meadow Yarns in the UK, our UK HK stockist. I'm not sure how she was able to narrow down her choice, what with a range of Cadence colours to choose from at her fingertips, but I think Lichen was the perfect choice for these mittens.

Gail (ravname: writergirl3) was the first person to post a completed pair of Triple Threat Socks by Knittymelissa as part of our March/April Ravelry knitalong. She chose to knit her stunning pair in last month's featured colour, Icicle in Piquant Lite. The beads add the perfect icy touch.

Emily (ravname: emarkus) knit a beautiful Washington Park Shawl by Debbi Stone in the lovely combination of Lichen and Plum Glace in Entice. I'm starting to think Lichen goes with almost every colour. This pattern was one of the Rose City Yarn Crawl's 2015 mystery patterns.

Check out Gail's (ravname: islandbirdknits) amazing Princess Fiona sweater by Amy Miller. Gail's sweater is in Artisan sock in Jam Session and it looks like it fits her perfectly. I'm sure it will get a lot of wear.

I'm amazed by the stitch definition on Mallorie's (ravname: VandyGirl) Linesx3 socks by Jeannie Cartmel. They are knit in Piquant Lite in Hoppy Blonde and the texture is out of this world!

Sandy(ravname: Sandals) knit this classy Smokeberry cowl by Wendy Neal. Knit in Lively DK in Tropical Sunset it has a delicateness about it that speaks to me.  So pretty!

And finally, Hilary (ravname: hthomps) knit this gorgeous pair of Contrapposto socks by Heidi Nick and Claire Ellen in Artisan sock in Citrus Blossom.  Contrapposto was our January/February mystery knitalong pattern on Ravelry and these socks are a joyous representation of what that KAL (and all our KALs) was all about (even with its snowy background).  If you'd like to see more of the finished mystery KAL socks click here! Or come and check out our current KAL and knit along with us.

Thanks to everyone for graciously allowing me to share their projects.

I can't wait to see what pops up next!

Sometimes I'm worried all of our technology will wipe out the traditions of old - written family recipes, faded photo albums - and other record keeping like this swatch book. This is beautiful!

"A shimacho–or stripe album–is a keepsake of home weaving swatches which was composed by families to remember the cloth they’ve woven. It’s been said that girls leaving their homes upon marriage would carry such an album with them to their husband’s family’s home in order to replicate or be inspired by her family’s woven cloth..."

March's Featured Colour

We are very excited about March's Featured Color of the Month, Lipstick 1984, a bright fuchsia pink with an undertone of blue. It was one of our early colors and, like the 80s, it's time for it to make a comeback.

Clockwise from the top: Lipstick 1984 on Artisan Sock, Bougainvillea sock knit by Viki (ravname: Viki), Turn a Square hat (shown with Queen of the Night) knit by Kendrea (ravname: KendreaB), Lodgepole Cowl (shown with Frost) knit by Viki, Red Rock Canyon Shawl (would look awesome with Icicle) knit by Christine (ravname: mapleweave) and Hello Big World baby vest knit by Viki.

Lipstick 1984 will be 10% off the regular price throughout the month of March. The first batch in most of the yarn bases will be ready to ship on March 6th.
